Redirect Users to a URL After Submission

5 minute read

Send Users to Your Website or Landing Page #

Take full control of the post-submission journey by redirecting users to any URL after form completion. FORMEPIC’s redirect feature lets you send respondents to custom landing pages, external websites, payment processors, or any destination you choose. Perfect for driving traffic to specific offers, continuing multi-step processes, or integrating forms into complex user workflows.

Redirect users seamlessly without showing a thank you page, creating a streamlined experience that keeps momentum going. Direct customers to upsell pages, membership portals, or confirmation pages on your website. Pass form data as URL parameters to personalize the destination page with user information, prefill subsequent forms, or trigger automated workflows based on submission data.

Create sophisticated user journeys that extend beyond form submission. Integrate forms into broader marketing funnels, maintain consistent branding by keeping users on your domain, and track conversion paths through your analytics platform by controlling exactly where users land after submitting.

Requirements #

  • A valid, publicly accessible URL is required to use the redirect feature
  • The destination URL must be a complete address starting with https:// or http://
  • The redirect URL field cannot be empty when the redirect option is selected
  • Destination pages should be tested to ensure they load correctly for all users

Tips and Tricks #

  • Use HTTPS URLs: Secure URLs (https://) provide better security and user trust
  • Test Thoroughly: Always test redirects before sharing your form publicly
  • Consider Mobile Users: Ensure redirect destinations are mobile-responsive
  • Track Conversions: Add UTM parameters to track form submission sources
  • Prepare Landing Pages: Create dedicated landing pages optimized for form respondents
  • Avoid Redirect Loops: Don’t redirect to a page that contains the same form
  • Set Expectations: If redirecting to a payment page, mention this in form instructions
  • Use Short URLs: For social sharing, consider using URL shorteners
  • Check Load Times: Ensure redirect destinations load quickly to avoid user frustration
  • White-list Domains: If using authentication, ensure redirect domains are white-listed
  • Consider User Context: Redirect to pages relevant to what users just submitted
  • Add Confirmation: If redirect takes time, consider adding “Redirecting…” messaging on your form

Important Notes #

  • Redirects happen immediately after successful form submission
  • Users will not see a thank you page when redirect is enabled—they go directly to the URL
  • Redirect URLs must be valid and accessible or users will see browser errors
  • The redirect occurs on the client side (browser), not server side
  • If the redirect URL is blocked or incorrect, users will see an error page
  • Redirects do not work in preview mode—you must publish the form to test
  • FORMEPIC does not control the content or behavior of redirect destination pages
  • Users can still use the browser back button to return to your form
  • Redirects preserve the original form’s submission—data is still recorded in FORMEPIC
  • Cross-origin redirects may trigger security warnings in some browsers
  • Redirect settings apply to all form submissions, not specific user segments

Common Issues & Troubleshooting #

Redirect Not Working #

Issue: Users stay on form page after submission instead of being redirected

Solutions:

  • Verify you’ve selected “Redirect to an external link” option
  • Ensure the redirect URL is complete and starts with https:// or http://
  • Click Save after entering the redirect URL
  • Check that your browser isn’t blocking redirects (popup blocker settings)
  • Test in an incognito/private browser window to rule out extension interference
  • Verify the form is published, not in draft mode

Invalid URL Error #

Issue: Error message appears when trying to save redirect URL

Solutions:

  • Ensure the URL includes the protocol (https:// or http://)
  • Check for typos in the URL
  • Remove any spaces before or after the URL
  • Verify the URL is a valid web address (test it in a browser first)
  • Avoid special characters or malformed URLs

Destination Page Not Loading #

Issue: Redirect works but destination page shows error or doesn’t load

Solutions:

  • Test the redirect URL in a browser to confirm it’s accessible
  • Check that the destination server is online and functioning
  • Verify the URL path is correct (watch for case sensitivity)
  • Ensure the destination doesn’t require authentication unless users are logged in
  • Check that the destination website allows embedding from external sources

Redirect Happens Too Quickly #

Issue: Users don’t see confirmation before being redirected

Solutions:

  • Consider using a thank you page with a “Continue” button instead
  • Add a brief delay message on your destination landing page
  • Use URL parameters to show custom messaging on the destination page
  • Provide confirmation via email in addition to the redirect

Mobile Redirect Issues #

Issue: Redirect works on desktop but not mobile devices

Solutions:

  • Test the redirect URL on mobile devices
  • Ensure destination page is mobile-responsive
  • Check that mobile browsers aren’t blocking redirects
  • Verify there are no mobile-specific restrictions on the destination site
  • Test in multiple mobile browsers (Safari, Chrome, Firefox mobile)

Redirect Blocked by Browser #

Issue: Browser displays security warning or blocks redirect

Solutions:

  • Use HTTPS URLs instead of HTTP for better security
  • Ensure destination site has valid SSL certificate
  • Check browser console for specific error messages
  • Test in different browsers to identify browser-specific issues
  • Verify the destination domain isn’t flagged for security concerns
