Create Engaging, Educational Quiz Experiences #
FORMEPIC makes quiz creation effortless with three flexible options. Create Using AI generates complete quizzes in seconds—describe your topic, paste a URL to extract questions, or upload a document to convert content into quiz questions automatically. Create from scratch lets you craft each question manually for precise control. Import existing brings quizzes from other platforms by pasting their URL, saving you from rebuilding everything from scratch.
Once your quiz is ready, customization settings transform it into a powerful assessment tool. Control when grades are released, decide what feedback quiz takers see, assign point values to questions, and create custom grade systems with letter grades or performance labels. Everything works together to create engaging educational experiences that provide valuable insights.
Accessing Quiz Settings #
- Open your quiz in the Builder
- Navigate to the right sidebar
- Click on the Settings tab
- Scroll through the organized settings sections
Display Settings #

Show Description #
Toggle to display or hide your quiz description. Use descriptions to explain the quiz purpose, time requirements, passing criteria, and any other important information.
FORMEPIC Branding #

Release Grades #
Control when and how quiz takers receive their results. This powerful feature lets you choose between instant feedback or manual review workflows.
Immediately after each submission #
Grades are calculated and displayed instantly when quiz takers submit their answers. This provides immediate feedback and keeps engagement high.
How to display results: Add Quiz Score, Quiz Grade, or Quiz Results List elements to your Thank You Page and/or Autoresponder Email to show quiz takers their performance immediately.
Later, after manual review #
Grades are withheld until you manually release them. This is perfect for quizzes that require subjective scoring or when you want to review all submissions before releasing results.
Workflow: Collect email addresses during the quiz → Review submissions in your dashboard → Use bulk actions to send grades via email when ready.
Respondent Settings #
Control what information quiz takers can see about their performance. These settings help you balance transparency with preventing answer sharing.
Missed questions #
When enabled, quiz takers can see which specific questions they answered incorrectly. This helps with learning and understanding where they need improvement without revealing the correct answers.
Correct answers #
When enabled, quiz takers can see the correct answers for all questions after grades are released. This is excellent for educational quizzes where learning from mistakes is encouraged. Disable this for high-stakes assessments to prevent answer sharing.
Point values #
When enabled, quiz takers can see both the total points possible and the points they received for each question. This creates transparency in scoring and helps quiz takers understand the weight of each question.
Global Quiz Defaults #
Set the default point value for all new questions you add to your quiz. This saves time when building quizzes with consistent scoring.
Default question point value #
Every new question you add will automatically be assigned this point value. You can always override this on individual questions later.
- Common default: 1 point per question (simple pass/fail quizzes)
- Alternative: 10 points per question (percentage-style grading)
- Custom values: Any positive number based on your scoring system
Grade System #
Create custom grade ranges to convert point scores into meaningful labels like letter grades, performance levels, or descriptive feedback. This powerful feature makes quiz results more understandable and actionable.
Enabling the Grade System #
Toggle the switch at the top of the Grade System card to enable or disable custom grading. When disabled, quiz takers only see their point scores.
Creating Grade Ranges #
Define grade ranges that map point totals to meaningful labels:
- Grade Label: The text displayed (e.g., “A”, “Excellent”, “Pass”, “Expert”)
- Minimum Range: The lowest point value for this grade
- Maximum Range: The highest point value for this grade
Example Grade System #
For a 100-point quiz:
- Grade “A” → Min: 90, Max: 100
- Grade “B” → Min: 80, Max: 89
- Grade “C” → Min: 70, Max: 79
- Grade “D” → Min: 60, Max: 69
- Grade “F” → Min: 0, Max: 59
Managing Grade Ranges #
- Click the + button to add a new grade range
- Click the trash icon to delete a grade range
- No limit on the number of grade ranges you can create
- Grade ranges can overlap—the first matching range is used
Quiz Status Settings #
Control when your quiz accepts submissions with powerful status management. See the “Changing Survey Status and Properties” article for comprehensive details on status settings, including conditionally enabling your quiz based on submission limits or dates.
Tips and Tricks #
- Use immediate grade release for casual knowledge checks and learning quizzes
- Use manual grade release for certification exams and high-stakes assessments
- Show correct answers in educational contexts to reinforce learning
- Hide correct answers when preventing answer sharing is critical
- Create descriptive grade labels like “Expert”, “Proficient”, “Needs Improvement” for personality-style quizzes
- Set consistent point values (like 10 points per question) for easier percentage calculations
- Use the AI Assistant to generate engaging quiz questions with appropriate difficulty levels
- Test your grade system by taking the quiz yourself before publishing
Important Notes #
- Display settings take effect immediately without saving
- Changing grade release mode doesn’t affect previously submitted quiz responses
- Grade ranges must not have gaps if you want all possible scores to receive a grade
- Default question point value only applies to newly added questions
- Quiz Score and Quiz Grade elements must be added to Thank You Page for immediate display
- Manual grade release requires collecting email addresses for notification
- Grade system visibility depends on adding appropriate elements to your Thank You Page
Common Issues & Troubleshooting #
Grades Not Showing After Submission #
Ensure “Release Grades” is set to “Immediately after each submission” and that you’ve added Quiz Score or Quiz Grade elements to your Thank You Page. Check that the grade system is enabled if using custom grades.
Wrong Grade Label Displaying #
Review your grade range settings. Ensure min/max values don’t overlap in unexpected ways and that ranges cover all possible scores. The first matching range is used, so order matters if ranges overlap.
Point Values Not Showing to Quiz Takers #
Verify that “Point values” is enabled in Respondent Settings. Also check that individual questions have point values assigned (not zero).
Can’t Add New Grade Ranges #
Make sure the Grade System is enabled (toggle at the top of the Grade System card). If already enabled, try refreshing the builder page.
Default Point Value Not Applying #
The default point value only applies to questions added after setting it. Existing questions retain their original point values. You’ll need to manually update existing questions if desired.
Correct Answers Showing When They Shouldn’t #
Check that “Correct answers” is disabled in Respondent Settings. Clear your browser cache and test in an incognito window if issues persist.
